Cheating: When Love Lies

Affairs are prevalent but rarely talked about relationships. The podcast, Cheating: When Love Lies, is a deep dive into the complex emotions surrounding these secret unions.

Creator and host, Jillian Hamilton, delves into this taboo topic and asks the hard questions about affairs: how common are they, who's having them, and why? These questions illicit unexpected answers that reveal both men and women as people actively seeking something - validation, escape, understanding, vengeance, thrill, love, sex, and romance - outside of marriage or committed partnerships. Cheating: When Love Lies resists the condemnation of affairs as uniquely wrong or bad and instead considers their usefulness in learning as much about relationships as we learn about our ourselves.

On the podcast, Jillian Hamilton narrates short fictional stories about cheating based on true life events. The narration is followed by a roundtable discussion with everyday people who share their unique perspectives. Jillian also interviews cheaters and betrayed partners. These interviews are raw and real-and at times maddening or heartbreaking.

Listen now to Cheating: When Love Lies. Are you ready for the truth?

Mum Says My Memoir Is A Lie (AUS)

In 2015, Rosie Waterland published her first book, a memoir called "The Anti-Cool Girl". The book is about her childhood, her growing up, and her becoming an adult; all with mentally ill, drug and alcohol addicted parents, child protection, foster care, caravans and couches. There were crazy and very difficult times but also some funny times too. Rosie is 30 now, her mum Lisa is now 53. Since the book came out, the one question Rosie is always asked is more than any other is, "Has your Mum read the book?"

Lisa hadn't read it for a while, because her drinking was so bad that she physically or emotionally couldn't. But in 2016, Lisa got sober. She has maintained that sobriety for the longest period Rosie has ever seen and.. she has finally read the book. She has many thoughts.

The first of which is that most of Rosie's memoir is a lie.

Now is their time to talk all about it. In each episode Rosie reads a chapter from the book, and then Rosie and Lisa talk through it - is it all true or false? What really happened? Each chapter becomes a real conversation about the past, present and future for Rosie and Lisa.

It's a shocking attack, the victim's tongue is almost torn from her mouth. To complete the lurid picture, she says her attacker boasted that he was a 200 year old vampire. Yet Shane Chartres-Abbott says he was framed and sets out to prove he is the fall guy for a high-level sex ring operating in the city. The victim is hiding a complex and volatile past relationship from police. On June 4 2003, Shane is murdered on the way to give evidence in court. Three years later, a career criminal in jail confesses to the crime and makes a series of sensational allegations. He says serving and past police were involved, providing him with the victim's address and an alibi for the shooting. The case ceases to be a murder investigation and turns into a purge of links between Victoria Police and the underworld. It will become the most expensive investigation in the state's history and the blood of the vampire gigolo will wash through the halls of power for years to come. In the end, nothing is proven. Today there is a lingering sense of justice denied, that a killer and their accomplices remain free.
